The Berthon Spain service team are delighted to announce that they are relocating to brand new, purpose built premises in Son Oms. The team now have a spacious 2,000 square metre warehouse and our administration offices will also be relocating to an adjacent block. We hope to all be on site at this fantastic location by November 20th. Having everything under one, big roof will make life a lot easier, especially when working on some of the bigger projects. The Berthon Spain brokerage office, however, will remain at its current address above Club de Mar.
Demand from our clients to store tenders, motorboats, rigging, containers, sails and much more has meant that we have outgrown our current 3 service locations, hence the need for change. The Son Oms warehouse is located only a short drive from Palma and extremely close to Club Nautico S’Arenal, where we do a lot of our haul outs. We have truly found the perfect size and location for our operations. The unit is large enough for trucks to drive straight in and unload and with space for 50 vehicles out front, we can now park our ever expanding Berthon fleet in the same place.
Now that we have the capacity, we have purchased a large amount of racking and a new forklift, allowing us to further maximise our boat storage capacity. In addition, we are having heavy duty dollies manufactured so that we can store yachts up to 15 tons and still be able to move them around easily.
Our head of engineering Nick McMullen is currently busy going over the plans with our architects to ensure that the workshop, paint booth and storage is all laid out in the most ergonomic way possible. With around 8 metres of height, we have plenty of room for cranes to unload the bigger yachts.
The cost of berthing in Palma has reached an extremely high level. There are therefore huge economic benefits to be gained from storing yachts in-land when possible. All yachts will be cleaned on arrival and again on departure, plugged into shore power, covered and checked weekly. Of course, our service team will be on hand for any works that may need doing.
We are expecting many superyacht tenders to be coming in for service and storage with us and owners can rest assured that these will be returned in pristine condition.
Ben Toogood, who has recently joined the Berthon Spain brokerage team from the UK, is also helping us set up part of the unit to house yachts that are for sale through us.
